Coheed: Neverender Night Two!!

Due to popular demand (no kidding!), I bring you my review of Neverender Night Two, in which Coheed and Cambria performed their album "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3" in its entirety! Definitely a superior show overall. I'd say part of that is simply the fact that Vicky and I like this album better than the first one, but I think it goes beyond that. First, it seemed like the band was a bit loosened up after the first show and it came out in the performance. Second, the material was more epic in scope, allowing for what I (and, it seemed, the other fans in attendance) felt was a more cathartic musical experience. In particular, the 10-minute closing track, "2113," was exhilarating to experience, as they'd never performed it live and it really solidified the epic feel of the event. This album also contained their biggest hit single, "A Favor House Atlantic," which became the biggest sing-along of the night. Third, the lack of an opening band actually worked out better; instead, bassist Michael Todd spoke for about a half hour to the crowd about the history of Coheed and even shared some humorous stories from the road and his own love life. It wouldn't have worked for an average concert, but these were by and large die-hard fans of the band, and the crowd ate up every word.

By the time the encore ("Gravemakers and Gunslingers" and "The Suffering") ended, the crowd was spent but happy. And ready for two more nights! Sadly, I would not be participating in those two nights, but hopefully they will release all the shows on DVD as suggested by the cameras present at both shows. Anyway... that's about it. Next up, Every Time I Die at the not-as-luxurious venue known as School of Rock East in Hackensack, NJ.
