Jess thought I should post about this...
I've decided that I need to drink more.
ANU researchers Dr Kaarin Anstey and Dr Bryan Rodgers found that people who had drunk moderate amounts of alcohol (14-28 standard drinks a week for men and 7-14 standard drinks a week for women) performed significantly better than those who were heavy drinkers (over 28 and 14 standard drinks for men and women respectively) and those who rarely or never drank. This relationship was found in participants in their 20s, 40s and 60s.
In the interest of my own personal health, I guess I need to start drinking more. I started tonight!

Thanks for the credit line Keith. :) I have to say, their idea of "moderate" is a bit baffling, but definatley worth keeping in mind! here's to health! :) Cheers!
Jess,
I think their idea of moderate sounds right. More than 14 drinks for a guy, unless you are more of a binge drinker probably means that you drink more than just on the weekends. I think of a moderate drinker as someone who is more than just a "weekend drinker."
Anyways, I love the comments in the article about those who don't drink moderately, “We found that people who did not drink were more likely to have poorer mental and physical health, less education, and poorer lifestyles,”
I need to drink to stay healthy!
Actually, 14 was the low end of "moderate." It was defined as 14-28 per week. Still moderate; you can have two glasses of wine with your dinner every day, and have a few more on the weekend nights, and you're not necessarily a heavy drinker.
